A #sliceofflowerpower for Mental Health this October

The words Mental Health always feel like a tagline. But it's something we all need to check in with, some farther along the journey than others. Like the weather, it comes and goes. Unlike the weather, it's something we can have control over. It's an important subject for many reasons, to me as well as for the rest of the team.

Last year, we wanted to do something special and different for the country we’ve called home for the past 8 years, and to spread a #sliceofflowerpower. We placed our signature bouquets in various parts of town, free for anyone to pick them up as a random act of kindness. It was a short spontaneous affair done on the weekend after 10th of October last year, also known as World Mental Health Day. We hope we were able to brighten up the days of those who found the bouquets, encouraging them to live in the present for that special moment and share our love for florals.

This year, we want to make a larger impact with our initiatives. We have a couple of activities lined up for October that we’d like to share with you, hoping that you’ll take the time out of your day to participate and possibly join our conversation about mental health.

October Specials: 100% of the profits from the below initiatives will go towards Daughters of Tomorrow (DOT), a charity in Singapore whose mission is to facilitate livelihood opportunities for underprivileged women and support them in achieving financial independence and enable social mobility for their families. Being a mother of two, a female business owner, who runs largely a team of female members, I resonate deeply with what DOT is doing to empower ladies that need the support to build their lives.

  1. Our Daughters Vase: a special product only available for the month of October, inspired by Charlotte's little girl and a tribute to DOT’s social mobility programmes. Their programmes aim to change the mindset of ladies who, oftentimes, come from abuse and/or trauma, to broaden their horizons.

  2. Charlotte Puxley Flowers x Trapeze Rec. Club - Unwind with a #sliceofflowerpower: A 1.5hr session to help you stay in the present and appreciate the fleetingness of flowers. We start off with a Yin Yoga and Sound Bath class brought to you by Trapeze Rec. Club followed by a flower press design workshop by our florists.

Fundraising: We also have a giving.sg page set up as part of a sub-campaign to support DOT's Practical Support Fund, which we will be using as a platform to donate the profits from the above initiatives to DOT.

Join our mental health conversation with a #sliceofflowerpower: Last year, we dropped bouquets in town - this year, we’re dropping buckets of flower stalks in different areas around Singapore for the first four Saturdays of October 2022. It’ll be a little secret but can you guess where they’ll be dropped?

Clue for the first drop on Oct 1 around ~3pm: This street used to have boarding houses that catered to Muslim pilgrims from the region who were transiting in Singapore en route to Mecca. Today, it is a car-free zone for pedestrians to walk freely. Can you guess where?

As part of these buckets, we’ll also be starting the conversation on our new TikTok (@charlottepuxleyflowers) to share one thing you’re grateful for and any advice you’d like to share with others to help them live in the present. We’ve got a couple of precious messages from our dear friends and family so we hope you’ll take part in it as well - take a look below!

We end off with a few quotes we keep dear to our hearts:

"Grow what you love. The love will keep it growing." - Anonymous

“Like wildflowers, you must allow yourself to grow in all the places people thought you never would.” - E.V.

All our love,

Charlotte
